Journal Article on Blockchain and Music

I have an article in the latest issue of the peer-reviewed Journal of the Copyright Society of the USA, “The Future of Blockchain Technology and the Music Industry.” The article explains the basics of blockchain technology, then evaluates proposed applications of the technology to music mainly by addressing the question of whether they solve known, current pain points or meet current needs. I break the industry down into two categories, B2B (business-to-business) and B2C (business-to-consumer). The B2B realm spans the creation of music to the music getting to a service that will distribute it to the public. B2C covers the ways in which those services make the music available to users. The article evaluates the potential applicability of blockchain technology in each of those categories.

You can get the article here, or if you subscribe to LexisNexis, Westlaw, or HeinOnline, it’s available online there as well.
